Hi Trev,

Sorry, I didn't see your original post. MEBEVERINE is an antispasmodic and is the standard prescription drug for IBS. If you get no joy, there are a few non-prescription things you can try - eat smaller meals but more often, keep stress levels as low as you can, and the following are worth trying, though results won't be instant - peppermint oil, psyllium, probiotics and FOS, but the quality needs to be good - there's a lot of poor quality stuff out there.

Whatever, good luck - IBS ain't nice  fingerscrossed

I tried Colpermin many years ago - I think they do help some people, I don't think they completely helped me, and my gut issues got worse over the years anyway.

I found that the only thing that helped me was to drastically change my diet to eliminate all that was upsetting it - people vary in this but for me it has been to cut out wheat... well all grains actually, most dairy, refined sugar, yeast and hot spices. We are all different but those are some common problem foods.

Yes, trev - peppermint oil is what they are. I wouldn't expect them to be effective on their own. As well as eating smaller but more regular meals, as Aggie says, trying to find out what foods effect you is a good idea, but a bit of a pain.

Gosh, I take so much Imodium. I swear I rattle when I walk. I'm so worried that it's bad for me but when I mentioned this to a gastroenterologist he just shrugged his shoulders and said that there were patients in his practice that take 15 or 16 Imodium tablets a day and they're still worse than me. Well that's alright then........
