Hello Everyone  051bye

I have been diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis since I was 18. I am now 41 soon to be 42  shocked. In the last few years about 5 or 6 years now I have also been diagnosed with I.B.S.

On one of many telephone calls to the I.B.D nurse I asked if there was any probiotic that did not come in milk, like the ones you can buy in the supermarkets as I am intolerent to milk. She said actually there is. It's called VSL#3. I will send a fax to your G.P who can then prescribe it for you.

Ok I said lets give it a try.

Well It has made a big difference to me, in that the attacks are not so servere, of course it does not stop all of them, but has stopped some attacks. I just thought I would mention it as you can buy it online yourself, or if you have a bowel illness you can get them on prescription from your G.P.

Here is the website telling you all about them http://www.vsl3.co.uk/

Thank you Rainbow.

Funnily enough a couple of other people have mentioned this to me in the last few months. I have now asked my doctor if it would be possible for her to prescribe it to me, but it's several weeks now and she has not come back to me (despite ringing again last week).

I have a feeling that they may not give them to people who 'only' have IBS, though having developed severe food intolerance I thought they might consider it. I also noticed when I googled it that one health authority has even got written guidelines now re who they will prescribe it to.

Meanwhile I am about to try a new probiotic that I have read some good things about, and after the first month isn't expensive.
It's called Prescript-assist.

I've just had a quick google but can not find it yet.

Does it say how many bugs there are in it?. The VSL#3 has been medically made with lots more bugs than the shop brought ones, would be good having a read of your one.

Basically they have thrown everything at me & some of them have worked up to a point, so perhaps they gave me them because I'm a stubon case  hee20hee20hee

Will look forwards to seeing how you get on with yours.

A couple of adverts for it here, but I also found it first in an article -

Here's the article....

Seems to be a different kind of probiotic to the norm. Different bugs.

It look's really good. Will be watching with interest if you find any benefit. I really hope you do.
