I have read many anecdotes regarding the use of CBD Oil reducing both normal pain and neuropathic pain (not to be confused with Hemp Seed Oil which is taken for its omega 3, 6 and 9 content).  CBD is the medicinal part of the cannabis plant which is legal in the EU, including the UK and doesn't make you get high (THC is responsible for that).

A Wiki can be found here:

I am thinking of trying this for a few months from this manufacturer who grow the plants organically:

https://canabidol.com/

Just out of interest, has anyone tried this oil?

Hi Talen,

Like you, I've read a lot about CBD oil, all good, but have never yet been tempted to buy any - based mainly on the fact that the high quality stuff is expensive and these days I have none of the problems that it's good for - eliminated by regular high quality MSM use. But if I did have such problems and hadn't achieved success with the MSM, I'd certainly give it a try. And based on everything I've read, I don't think you'd need to persist for 'a few months' to establish whether or not it benefits you.

If you do decide to try it, good luck  fingerscrossed

Hi TP,

The problem was probably down to quality and quantity. The really good stuff costs close to a hundred quid for 10ml!

Yes, it's very expensive. I have tried the oil for chronic stomach pain although I am now managing that better by other means. I had some samples and also bought some oil but it didn't make a significant dent on the stomach pain for me, but I have heard that it does help other people with different kinds of pain.

Good luck Talen, I really hope it's helpful for you.

Thanks for the link treepixie.  The website in my OP turns out to be dodgy after further investigation.  I checked another UK website (which was actually in the US).  I put the address in Google maps and it turns out its a pet shop.  Very strange.  At least I know yours is legit.

Roger, I noticed the Ancient Purity website has it for near on £100 like you say.  I have read that some with Fibromyalgia have found it reduces neuropathic pain.

Aggie, thanks for the feedback.

I looked at drug interactions last night and CBD oil interacts with several medications I take causing delayed excretion.  I was at the Pain Clinic 4 days ago and didn't think to ask the consultant about this.

Hi Talen,

Ancient purity only sell the very best of everything, which I'm sure costs them some business, but they're committed to only selling what works, and as I'm sure you're aware, most supplements DON'T work.

Re drug interactions, yes it's a fair bet that something potent like high quality CBD oil will have some, so of course you do need to check that out. The problem is though that the average GP/Consultant won't have a clue, so they'll cover their back with a 'don't take it'. And to be fair, you can't really blame them. Be careful!

Q: Does CBD interact with other medications?

A: Yes. CBD inhibits the cytochrome P450 enzyme, which is involved in metabolizing many drugs. Compounds in grapefruit inhibit the same enzyme group, which is why physicians advice patients not to eat grapefruit shortly before or after taking a medication. By inhibiting cytochrome P450, CBD can either reduce or increase the effects of other drugs. In some situations, it may be advisable for a physician to monitor a patientís blood levels of other medications while taking CBD.

Thanks for the advice Roger.  The pain specialist has asked by GP to prescribe low dose Amitriptyline for the pain (quite bad at the moment).  I will hold off to see how it works then try the MSM route.  I will leave the CBD oil as a last resort.

Keep a close lookout for side effects with the Amitriptyline, Talen. Re the MSM option, please be aware that benefits take time - so if you do try it, don't expect quick results because you'll be disappointed if you do.

Good luck.

I usually give 4 months for new supplements.  Is this enough for MSM?

Yes, Talen, as long as you're taking enough and drinking adequate amounts of clean water.

Hi everybody i haven't been on for a while and i noticed this intriguing discussion.  My husband has complex regional pain syndrome and has had a variety of pain medication over the years plus z neuro stimulator implant which didnt work. He's recently started on CBD oil and says the difference is amazing.  He gets a high content vapour oil legally from vapour shop and is now writing to his condultsnt to suggest a trial as its only on prescription for MS

Hi Eliz,

Hope life is better for you and your problems resolved.  I have not been around for a while due to being unwell.  That is interesting about vaping CBD oil.  My physiotherapist thinks that is probably the best route as well.  Can I ask where he gets it from?  I have been vape-free for 6 weeks now as I was only having the odd puff since stopping the nicotine content a year ago.  I think I could manage just a few puffs daily if needed.
